Morrisons, one of the UK’s leading supermarkets, has announced that it will halve the prices of bread and cheese products in its stores. The move comes after ministers demanded supermarkets explain high food costs amid rising inflation and supply chain issues.

The price cuts will affect a range of items, including Morrisons Medium White Bread (from 89p to 45p), Morrisons The Best 3 Cheese & Garlic Flatbreads (from £2.49 to £1.25), and Morrisons Italian Cheese & Garlic Bread (from £2.19 to £1.10). The supermarket said the reductions are part of its “deflation dividend” strategy, which aims to pass on savings to customers and boost sales1.

Morrisons chief executive David Potts said: "We are committed to making good food more affordable for everyone. By halving the prices of some of our most popular bread and cheese products, we are helping our customers save money on their everyday essentials."

The price cuts will be effective from Monday, May 15, and will last for at least four weeks. Morrisons said it will review the prices regularly and adjust them according to market conditions.
